I know sometimes it feels like the word community is overused and diluted. But I can see WHY when people feel the close-knit love and support, unspoken words and warmth that we feel at Elevate.
As we celebrate five years of this space, I’ve been thinking a lot about what really makes us who we are. It’s not the walls or the building, the playlists, or even the classes themselves. It’s the people who keep showing up inside of it.
Community is such a powerful thing because it reminds us we were never meant to do life entirely alone. In yoga, we do often talk about the self, the inner world, the personal practice—but there’s also something deeply healing about practicing beside one another. Breathing together. Moving together. Witnessing each other through seasons of strength, grief, growth, exhaustion, joy, and change. We GET to do both of these things independently, yet somehow still so intertwined.
Can you relate to that feeling of walking in the door at the studio on a tough day, or when your whole day felt rushed, or just after receiving some bad news or having a tough conversation, and feeling the unspoken support and care from everyone in the room, ready to all set their things aside and just move and breathe together?
Some days, community looks big and obvious—celebrations, laughter, full rooms. Other days, it’s quieter. It’s someone saving you a spot in class, grabbing you props, or moving to make space for you. A familiar face, a smile and a hand on your shoulder when life feels heavy. A teacher remembering your name and something about the last time you two chatted after class. A face-to-face conversation that reminds you that everyone is human.
Over the last five years, this community has held space for so many versions of ourselves. People have walked into this room during some of the best moments of their lives and some of the hardest. And through all of it, we continue practicing the same thing: showing up. Not perfectly, but consistently. And every time we do this, we give those around us encouragement and permission to do the same thing for themselves.
Yoga teaches us interconnection. The idea that none of us are actually separate from one another. The energy we bring into a room matters. The kindness we offer to those around us matters. The way we support each other matters. Community doesn’t require us to all be the same—it asks us to belong together anyway. And you can FEEL that at this place. It feels safe.
Reflect on the people who help hold you up in your life. The people who make you feel seen, grounded, encouraged, or safe enough to soften. And maybe also consider the ways you are that person for someone else, especially within this community, often without even realizing it.
Five years is something to celebrate, and even more, it’s something to feel so grateful for. Thank you for being part of this community, for bringing your energy here, and for continuing to grow alongside one another.
